Teeth whitening gel: pens, strips or the LED kit?
Pens, strips and the kit all use a teeth whitening gel. The difference is how the gel reaches your teeth. With the Advanced Kit you paint it on with a pen, and the LED light speeds it up in 10 minutes. Strips hold the gel on a strip you wear for 30 minutes, with no light. To buy teeth whitening gel online on its own, the Whitening Pen Pack has 3 refill pens for the SmilePro light.
How LED teeth whitening at home works
You paint the whitening gel onto your teeth with the pen, then switch on the LED mouthpiece for 10 minutes. The blue LED activates the gel so each treatment is short, and the red LED is designed to keep it comfortable. The light switches itself off after 10 minutes, so you never have to time it.
Most customers see a noticeable difference after the first treatment. For the full result, whiten for 10 minutes a day for 7 days in a row. You can run up to three 10-minute cycles in one session if you want to push it.
What is in the Advanced Teeth Whitening Kit?
- An LED teeth whitening device with a built-in mouth tray
- 3 whitening pens (30 treatments)
- A charging case that doubles as a travel case, and a charging cable
- A tooth shade guide and step-by-step instructions
At-home teeth whitening or the dentist?
In-chair whitening at the dentist takes around an hour, needs an appointment and often costs hundreds of dollars. An at-home kit takes 10 minutes a day for 7 days, on your own schedule. A dentist is still the right first step if you have any concerns about your teeth or gums.
See our guide to how much teeth whitening costs.
Is at-home teeth whitening safe?
SmilePro whitening products are enamel safe and formulated to prevent sensitivity in healthy teeth and gums when used as directed. If your teeth are already sensitive, see a dentist before you start, as there may be an underlying cause. They are not for anyone under 18, or anyone pregnant or breastfeeding.
The full list of who should not use them is in our terms, and more answers are in our FAQ.
How to keep your results
Whitening lifts stains but does not stop new ones forming. After your 7-day course, a 10-minute top-up every 2 weeks keeps your result going, or once a week if you drink a lot of coffee, tea or red wine. Strips work the same way, with one 30-minute strip treatment every 2 weeks. Brushing with a whitening toothpaste helps lift everyday surface stains between top-ups.
